Activities

The GCKT is involved with a number of ongoing activities and plans for new ones are underway.

Charitable work

The GCKT support Grace House Children’s Hospice based in the North East of England and has in the past year donated financially as well as provided logistical support by way of marshalling staff for events arranged by the hospice. This is an ongoing association.

Now no longer used as a cemetery, it has an ongoing restoration project that the GCKT contribute to. The cemetery has also of late been a victim of vandalism with gravestones smashed and defaced with graffiti. The GCKT has also helped to renovate these and will be replacing, a stone cross which sits on top of the entrance gate.

We are also pleased to support and promote the Ark° Foundation, a not for profit movement encouraging Acts of Random Kindness - inspiring others to be kind and getting them to think differently about the way life should be lived.

The GCKT has always had at its core the desire to be active in the community and there are many further plans in the pipeline for charitable and humanitarian works that the GCKT will be involved in.

Instructional activities

Instructional but fun activities are also arranged by the GCKT throughout the year, a broadsword and modern soldiering skills course has already been trialled this year and was a great success and plans are in progress to add archery to this course next year.

The GCKT is also unveiling a course which teaches basic rescue techniques after which members, following successful completion of the course, can volunteer with their local councils EPU departments (Emergency planning Units).

As part of The GCKT’s support of Houghton le spring old cemetery, an abseiling display was carried out at the cemetery’s open day. This involved such activities as rock climbing demonstrations, inverted abseils and medieval Templar re-enactment which proved, not only a great spectacle, but also enabled the public at large to engage with the GCKT, on a face to face basis.

Further activities are likely to be scheduled throughout the year which will be advertised on our calendar under 'Upcoming Events'.
